Cross Training and Physical Activity: A Better Life Experience (CAPABLE) now offers courses at RepEaters CrossFit in Commerce Township. CAPABLE is a fitness program created by Jennifer Beebe-Dimmer, Ph.D., MPH, epidemiologist, leader of the Population Studies and Disparities Research Program, scientific director of the Epidemiology Research Core at Karmanos, and principal investigator of the CAPABLE study. The program teaches cancer survivors interval training and strength and conditioning workouts of simple movements performed at scalable levels. Dr. Beebe-Dimmer’s research with her team has shown favorable and beneficial results for cancer survivors and patients. Results of the pilot study, The Impact of High-Intensity Interval Training in a Diverse Group of Cancer Survivors: CAPABLE, A Pilot Study, are published in Preventative Medicine Reports.

Dave Finlay, CAPABLE co-director; Taira Baird, program coordinator; breast cancer survivors; and CAPABLE participants Julia Fearing and Katie Kutney, showed the types of exercises cancer survivors will learn in the program on WDIV.
