The Surgeon General released the Alcohol and Cancer Risk advisory at the beginning of January and suggests the link needs to be included on alcohol bottles. Najeeb Al Hallak, M.D., MS, medical oncologist and co-leader of the Gastrointestinal and Neuroendocrine Oncology Multidisciplinary Team at Karmanos, joined WDET’s The Metro to discuss the proposed label. Dr. Al Hallak explained that alcohol causes around 100,000 cancer cases and 20,000 cancer deaths a year and how he thinks this new advisory could help reduce those numbers.
