Ammar Sukari, M.D., is a medical oncologist, leader of the Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Team and a member of the Thoracic and Breast Multidisciplinary Teams at Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, Michigan. He has a special interest in head and neck cancer, lung cancer and immuno-oncology.
Dr. Sukari is also an active clinical and scientific member with significant experience in clinical research. Since 2009, he has been an assistant professor of oncology at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
Dr. Sukari's research focus is in conducting clinical and translational research trials to improve treatment strategies for patients with lung and head and neck cancers. He is the local PI for multiple clinical trials in head and neck cancers at Karmanos. His clinical research experience spans more than eight years and includes both reviewing and prioritizing research protocols.
In the past, Dr. Sukari assisted residents and fellows with their research and training grant. Throughout the past three years, he focused on his research in cancer immunotherapy, using checkpoint inhibitors. He earned his M.D. at University of Aleppo Medical School in Syria, and he completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in medical oncology at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.
