The Metro Detroit United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Association continues to support the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute patients. Libbi Fletcher and George Bresinski, representatives of the Metro Detroit USBC, visited Karmanos on May 28, 2024, to drop off a check for $17,774. The organization’s donation will support the Walt Breast Center Underinsured Patient Assistance Fund.
Throughout the year, the Metro Detroit USBC collects donations to go toward their efforts. They also host the annual Bowl for a Cure. This year’s event happened on Feb. 24, 2024, and included three hours of nine-pin, no-tap bowling, pizza, games, and prizes. The event even featured a favorite – the rubber duckie adoption. Bowlers purchased a pink rubber duckie with a number on the bottom. If their duckie’s number was called, they won a prize.
During this year’s Bowl for a Cure, bowlers and spectators wore pink to support breast cancer programs. Just before bowling began, there was a moment of recognition for the attending breast cancer survivors. Karmanos staff also filled a few lanes to join in on the fun and support the bowling league.
"We are truly grateful the Metro Detroit USBC Association has chosen to support breast patients who are in need through their incredible fundraising efforts," said Arnold D'Ambrosio, Chief Development Officer at Karmanos. "Cancer impacts patients more than just medically, so donations to financial assistance funds help with meeting basic living needs so patients can focus on their health and healing."
