WOLB | Prostate Cancer Among African American Men

WOLB

Isaac Powell, M.D., urologic oncologist, member of the Genitourinary Oncology Multidisciplinary Team and the Population Studies and Disparities Research Program at Karmanos, was invited to speak with hosts during Patrick Henderson’s Meet the People on Baltimore’s WOLB 1010 AM News Radio. Henderson passed away in January 2024 after two battles with prostate cancer. Dr. Powell explained his research surrounding African Americans’ mistrust of the health care system and his and his co-investigators’ ongoing research of the genes and other risk factors that cause more advanced prostate cancer diagnoses among African American men than European men. He encouraged listeners to talk about cancer in their family because it could lead to helping someone find their cancer earlier and saving their life.
