How to Refer a Patient to McLaren Proton Therapy Center
McLaren Proton Therapy Center physicians value the continuing relationship with referring physicians to ensure the best care for patients battling cancer. Our experts are committed to communicating with referring physicians before, during and after your patient goes through their treatment schedule.
If you think proton therapy may be the best option for your patient, call us to schedule a physician-to-physician case review, or send us a referral form.
Introducing your patient to proton therapy for cancer
Potential proton therapy candidates may be introduced to this treatment with an initial visit to the McLaren Proton Therapy Center. If distance is an issue for your patient, a virtual visit may be an option. Our radiation oncologists and patient navigator can set up a virtual visit to help introduce your patient to the benefits of proton therapy. Right now, our physicians schedule virtual visits with potential proton therapy candidates at McLaren Northern Michigan, with plans to expand this service. Following the introductory visit to the McLaren Proton Therapy Center, or the virtual visit, if your patient feels proton therapy is right for them, an in-person consultation will be scheduled. Call our patient navigator at (855) MY-PROTON for more information.
Insurance Assistance
Our insurance patient advocate is on your patient’s side to navigate the process with all insurance carriers. Our goal is to help your patient receive the treatment that’s best for their cancer case.
Collaborative treatment
During your patient’s treatment at McLaren Proton Therapy Center, our radiation oncologists will remain transparent, and deliver updates on the treatment process and status of your patient’s cancer. Referring physicians are also part of the planning process for patients and may participate in the case review meetings.
