Supporting Education and Career Development at Karmanos

The Cancer Center Research Training and Education encompasses all career stages, supporting activities throughout the course of a successful career in academic cancer research. The office, which is part of Karmanos Cancer Institute, supports training efforts of Wayne State School of Medicine and the Office of Vice President of Research to initiate cancer-specific training and education across the career spectrum from high school to tenured faculty.

Specific Aims of the Office of Cancer Research, Training and Education

  1. Foster engagement in cancer research for diverse trainees by providing opportunities for professional development and building professional networks through nationally recognized programs focused on preparing the next generation of research scholars.
  2. Promote career advancement for all faculty, in line with their current needs, as they work to develop and maintain essential professional skills.
  3. Provide cancer educational opportunities for community-based health care professionals in our catchment area.

Education and Research Training Programs

CRTE at Karmanos supports and administers programs to help prospective medical students and oncologists get exposure to the exceptional staff and work of the Cancer Institute. Our office seeks to give a boost to those who have been underrepresented in medicine – which includes, racial, ethnic, gender, and sexual minority learners. These programs are for various levels from 10th graders to undergraduate, graduate and residency trainees.
